Title:  IC 3115
Description:  A CN local pauses near the former C&NW depot at Kaukauna, WI on 9 Aug. '18. The depot was built in 1947 at the intersection of Depot St. and Draper St., to replace the old, wooden depot. Designed in the Art Moderne style, it originally had flat roofs. The current, gabled roofs were added at some point after 1983. It became known as the north side depot after 1890, when the MLS&W, later C&NW, built their large, ornate depot south of the Fox River. That depot disappeared many years ago. Local had just finished servicing the Expera Specialty Solutions (originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co.) paper mill and was waiting for a through freight to pass before heading back to Neenah. Train had two locomotives, IC 3115 and GTW 4927.

Description:  A CN local throws a little smoke as it accelerates to head southeast via former SOO rails after a halt short of Winchester Rd./Hwy. II at Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, WI until 14 Apr. '16) on 12 Aug. '18. The divergence of rail lines at Winchester Rd., where the line the local is on heads northeast toward Green Bay and the line in the foreground heads northwest toward Stevens Point, is labeled Winnebago Junction on some old maps. Local was returning frot Appleton, Little Chute, and Kaukauna.

Train was headed back from Little Chute and Kaukauna and was slowing to halt in front of the depot/yard office at the yard at Appleton Junctijn, WI. Train had two locomotives, IC 3115 and CN 4721. The rail in the foreground is the yard lead.

Description:  A CN local bisects the intersection of S. Outagamie St. and W. Melvin St. (background left) and approaches W. 2nd St. while headed southwest past the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction, WI on 15 Aug. '18. Train was headed back from Little Chute and Kaukauna and was slowing to halt in front of the depot/yard office. The rails leading to the left are the yard lead. Carter's Caboose, 1428 W. 2nd St., a small, old, rail side tavern, stands at right. It dates to at least 1930, when it was a soft drink establishment owned by Hubert J. Merkel and August F. Brandt (Prohibition was still in effect). By ’36 it was a tavern operated by Albert Giesen, owned by Mrs. Gletchen Merkel. By ’38 it was Bob’s Tavern, still owned by Mrs. Merkel. By ’67 it was the Junction Tavern, owned by at least two different people until at least ‘71. At some point in the ‘70s it became Pete’s Junction (possibly Palomino Pete’s Junction). It was called Netticoat Junction ca. the ‘90s (owned by Joanne M. ‘Nettie’ Nett).

Description:  A CN local crosses Stroebe Rd. as it heads northeast via former SOO rails with 6 cars at Stroebe, WI, on 31 Oct. '20. Stroebe is a railroad station in Fox Crossing, WI (formerly Town of Menasha, Winnebago Co., WI, from 1855 until 14 Apr. 2016). The former C&NW rails are in the foreground. The Great Northern Corp. facility is partially visible in the background. They have a spur, but have not received rail service for quite a while. In fact, the turnout connecting their spur to the main line was torn out earlier this year.
