Next we moved on to just outside of Media, IL to photograph a westbound coming across the impressive Media Tressle. This bridge has been under construction for nearly 2 years and my dad claims it looked pretty much the same way it does now this time last year. After a short wait, BNSF 5616 led a westbound trailer train across the bridge. |

We crossed the massive Mississippi River into Iowa which would be our turning location. When we crossed the bridge we noticed the gates were down on the road where BNSFs seldom used Hannibal Sub continues north to the Burlington. Sure enough, a northbound corn syrup train was heading north. Sadly we werent able to get to the crossing quick enough to get a head on shot, which vould have been nice considering this line sees laybe 2-4 trains a day. |

Description: |
The autorack train that we saw in Dallas City ended up blocking our path to the Amtrak platform where we were going to sit originally, but it also blocked out an eastbound UP runthrough intermodel. So, we tried to chase it back to the east side of town but we were unable to catch up to the lead engines. Thankfully for us it had an outward facing DPU on the rear. |

Back in Illinois, we just got off the bridge when we saw the glow of headlights off the rails around the curves so we pulled over and caught another westbound intermodel headed into Iowa outside of Niota, IL. We ended up catching one more train after dark on the Ottumwa Sub (which had a Grinstine for DPU of course). Ended up with 37 trains total today, 7 more than yesterday. Pretty nice day! Caught some pretty good stuff today! Tomorro we start working back east towards Mendota, IL where we will end the day. The Mendota Sub doesnt see nearly as many trains as the Transcon does but we should still see some neat trains! So long to Day 4! |
