They Are Already Protesting This Proposed Railway Line
Title:  They Are Already Protesting This Proposed Railway Line
Description:  The Zip Rail line from the Twin Cities to Rochester, Minnesota. could follow the same alignment as the long gone main line of the Chicago Great Western. This farmer whose field is located on the southwest side of the County 56 bridge over the Middle Fork of the Zumbro River (and across the street from where the CGW R-O-W once was) is already making a protest.

Prairie Avenue Crossing--Former MILW I&M
Title:  Prairie Avenue Crossing--Former MILW I&M
Description:  During the glory days of the Milwaukee Road, trains to and from Austin, Minnesota, thundered across Prairie Avenue on the rails of the I&M division. Today the rails glint only due to being burnished by auto traffic.

All Quiet Twenty Years Later
Title:  All Quiet Twenty Years Later
Description:  I first discovered Faribault's ex-Milwaukee Road depot during the summer of 1995. Back then a company loaded gondolas with recyclables (?) here. Sadly, that business did not last into the first decades of the 21st Century, resulting in the mothballed tracks you see now.

A Depot, And A Profound Place To Visit
Title:  A Depot, And A Profound Place To Visit
Description:  This is the former Northern Pacific Hinckley depot, now operated as a museum, and what a museum it is: the Hinckey Fire Museum. I was so moved by the exhibits that I needed to cut my first visit short lest I wept aloud. There are exhibits related to railroading and Native American life, but the section that packs the biggest emotional punch is the wing dedicated to the deadly fire which swept the area on September 1st, 1894--an even that witnessed many railroaders come to the rescue of people fleeing for their lives.

Title:  MILW 10200 B
Description:  This is the 10200's "B" unit. I wish the Milwaukee Road had kept the faith about not only the Coast Division but the electric operations as well. At least we have the 10200 to remember it by, and I am glad the LSRM allows visits inside these units, but be careful. MILW boxcabs are cramped inside due to all the electrical gear except in the cab areas.
