Album Info:These are recently acquired large photos of Long Island RR boxcabs built by Alco/GE/Ingersoll-Rand and Baldwin/Westinghouse in the 1920's. No location or date listed for any of the photos so dates are approximate.

LIRR 401 - Long Island RR
Title:  LIRR 401 - Long Island RR
Description:  Built by the trio, Alco, GE & Ingersoll-Rand in February of 1926, this was the first twin engine oil-electric locomotive built. It had a length of 40 ft, a 36" wheel diameter, and produced 600 hp total from its twin engines. Later it was rebuilt with transverse forced-draft fanradiators. The unit was retired & sold for scrap on 6/7/51 to Luria Brothers Iron & Metal Works. For more information, check out (http://sbiii.com/boxcabs1.html). Description:  The transverse forced-draft radiator fans can be easily seen on the top of the unit. Built by Alco/GE/Ingersoll-Rand in February of 1926, this unit served well until being retired and sold for scrap on June 7, 1951 to Luria Brothers Iron & Metal Works. LIRR 403 - Long Island RR
Title:  LIRR 403 - Long Island RR
Description:  This is one of a pair of oil-electric Baldwin/Westinghouse locomotives built in January of 1928 and were semi-permanently paired until much later. Nicknamed "Mike and Ike", this is "Mike" separated from "Ike". Individual cab length of 20 ft, width of 9 1/2 ft and height of 14'11". Max speed was 30 mph with its 38" driver wheels. Sold to Iron & Steel Products of Chicago, IL, in September of 1945 and later sold to an unknown buyer in 1948. Photo is by J. Reschke, but no date or location listed.
