The south and east walls of Union Station at Davenport, IA on 27 Jun. '14. Union Station was built in 1924 by the MILW and CB&Q. The CB&Q freight house is the single story building of similar construction on the left. The freight house is connected to the station by a covered, open passage way. The station's main floor houses the visitor center, the second floor and adjacent freight house are offices. |

The west and south sides of the DRI&NW depot at Moline, IL on 27 Jun. '14. The depot was built in 1900. Purchased by Frank Foundry Co. for office space in 1934. Purchased by City of Moline in 1994 for use as visitor center. It would have to be demolished or moved when a new bridge is built. The south and east sides of the CRIP depot at Rock Island, IL on 27 Jun. '14. The depot was built in 1901. The last passenger train left the station 31 May ’78. The City of Rock Island purchased it from the Iowa Interstate RR in 1994 and restored the exterior in 1996. The depot was built in 1870 by the Davenport & St. Paul Railroad. Circa 1874 it was owned by the DRI&NW. From 1879 until it closed in 1970 it was owned by the MILW. The north and west walls of the former DM&IR depot at Two Harbors, MN on 24 Jun. '16. It was the destination for the excursion on the North Shore Scenic Railroad (NSSR). The depot was built by the D&IR in '07. The two-story brick structure measures 110’ x 44’. It served as the headquarters and corporate offices for the D&IR. Passenger service ended in '61. It is now home to the Lake Co. Historical Society. |

Since '73 it has been home to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the St. Louis Co. Historic Society, and several arts organizations. Regular passenger service, in the form of Amtrak, returned from '74 or '77 until 7 Apr. '85. Passenger service again returned in '90 when the North Shore Scenic Railroad began offering excursions. |

The north wall of the former W&M depot at Iron Mountain, MI on 3 Nov. '18. Currently home to Midwest Mini Storage, 111 E. H St. The current depot is W&M’s 2nd for Iron Mountain. In 1903, the W&M built a depot “one mile west of Quinnesec for the purpose of handling the passenger and freight traffic for Iron Mountain.” Horse-drawn carriages and wagons were used to shuttle passengers and freight the approximate 2 ½ miles from downtown to the depot. In 1907, W&M freight trains were able to run into Iron Mountain proper via trackage rights with MILW, passenger trains followed the next year (both utilized the MILW depot). By the end of 1908, W&M extended their own line into the heart of Iron Mountain, but reportedly continued to utilize the MILW depot. The current depot was built between 1923 and 1930, if the Sanborn maps are accurate. The 1923 map depicts the W&M rails coming into town to interchange with the MILW, but not the depot. |
