WPHX 2162
Title:  WPHX 2162
Description:  A decent sized cut of cars await disposition in the former CNW yard at Marinette. The railroad presence is not as prevalent as it once was during the Milwaukee Road and Chicago and Northwestern era in town. There are still a handful of industries between Menominee and Marinette to be served. In fact, one old spur was recently re-furbished and has been brought back into service along the water front.

WPHX 2162
Title:  WPHX 2162
Description:  A look generally north into the former CNW yard. The depot is still standing and in use by the CN. It is located out of sight around a curve just beyond the end of visible tracks in this photo. There are four tracks on this end of the yard, but only three on the other side of Mary Street. Mary Street is the road cutting across the tracks between the two cuts of cars.

CN 2190
Title:  CN 2190
Description:  After waiting for a couple hours hoping to get a shot of a train crossing the Menominee River, I had to take a walk to meet up with the family. About ten minutes after I left the bridge to head over to the parking lot near the station, an east bound came through. Here it is approaching the Hall Avenue grade crossing.

Chicago & Northwestern station
Title:  Chicago & Northwestern station
Description:  Looking toward Hall Ave at the former CNW station currently used by the CN. Marinette was a two railroad town, served by the Milwaukee Road and the CNW. The Escanaba and Lake Superior replaced the Milwaukee's presence in town. The CNW was replaced by the Union Pacific, very briefly, who in turn spun it off to the Wisconsin Central. The WC was then bought by the Canadian National, who still runs through town and works with the ELS. The ELS line to here from Crivitz is usually plugged with stored cars, yet the ELS keeps a switcher in the area (engine house located across the river in Menominee, MI) to work the industries. Sources indicate that the switching in Marinette and Menominee is mainly done by ELS crews, with the CN taking care of the incoming and outgoing traffic.

Spur into Kimberly Clark
Title:  Spur into Kimberly Clark
Description:  One of two spurs leading into the Kimberly Clark mill in Marinette, WI. This one comes off the former Milwaukee Road line from Crivitz to Marinette and crosses highway 180 just before the gates to the mill property. Though the line the spur branches from runs between Crivitz and Marinette, the line is used only as a switchback into the plant. The line is plugged with stored cars between the cities, and cars for Marinette come from the former CNW line now part of CN. The ELS does the majority of switching in the area circa 2015.
