This. Was what I was hoping to catch. I've been trying for years to catch one of the MetroNorth "McGinnis" New Haven livery units.
Either I was on the Tug Cornell and
a) couldn't grab cnmera in time,
b) had my hands full
c) had the camera ready and the train was behind trees,
d) bad lighting,
e) train was too far away for a good shot or
f) all of {he above. :\
Today, I had to run down to the Cornell for only an hour or so and I figured I'd bring my cameras with me to shoot MN & Amtrak Peekskill. Well just my luck, it started drizzling. So I figured, let me not waste the day, and check out some vantage points I had been putting off.
I was at the north end of Peekskill Park"checking out the Annsville Creek trestle and sure enough, more of my luck: MN "McGinnis" #230 pulls in. I was too far from the platform to catch in station, and where it!would be near me, there was trees in the way. And by the time I'd have a clear shot she'd be going away on the trestle. I grabbed a few shots anyway (see other album thiu date)
So then I jumped across the river to check out Doodletown Bight Trestle, the scanner burped and I walked out onto a sand bar and caught a sb manifest (see other album this date).
By now it stopped drizzling but very hazy. I figured 230 would have to come south so I drove back up to the Bear Mountain Bridge, parked and walked to mid-span and waited.
Caught a few more CSX, a huge military helicopter, Vane Brothers "Patapso" heading south with an empty fuel barge, and the Hudson River Militia Patrol Boat (see other albums this date). A northbound MN, a northbound Amtrak and finally a southbound MN, but it was not MN 230 pushing! WTF? It must be laying over in Poughkeepsie.
