The fireman is filling the water tank in preparation for another run. A note on the back of the photo states "Cal.Western 21, Ft. Bragg, Calif, 6-37, taken in fog". This 2-6-2 Prairie style loco was built by Baldwin in 1920 and worked around Fort Bragg for nearly 30 years before being sold to Pan American Engineering in 1950 who then sent it down to the Mexicano del Pacifico in Los Mochis, Mexico. It was renumbered #6.Specs - class 21, 44" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 18x24" cylinders, engine wt 140,000 lb, tractive effort of 27,039 lb. A. Parsons photo |
