EL 3453 |
Description: |
Former DL&W MU trailer, built by Barney & Smith in 1912 as a locomotive hauled car and later converted to work with the Lackawanna's electric MUs in the 1930s. While in service in New Jersey, this was a subscription only parlor car where commuters would pay each month for the option to ride in a quieter, more private ride to and from work each day. The Walkersville Southern acquired the coach from New Jersey's United Railroad Historical Society a few years back with plans to restore it for future dinner train operations. |

The WS recently acquired another LIRR commuter car, this one from the AC&J in Ohio, for use as a cafe car on future excursions. Look closely, on this side one can find marks for three other railroad besides AC&J, including Long Island Railroad, Steamtown Foundation, and the Knox & Kane. |

End view of the car reveals the old owl eyed style windows long associated with the Pennsylvania Railroad. No surprise there as this car was in service on Long Island at a time when PRR controlled the LIRR. |
