Description:  Here is a photo via Jim Snyder, Jr., that was taken of Frankstown, Pennsylvania, sometime in the 1920's. Notable here (B to T) are the Pennsylvania Railroad's water tower, an actual train departing for Petersburg on the H&P line, Tower F, and the Eastbound Classification Yard. The Eastbound and Westbound Yards were constructed in 1902-1903, and were built over the old Pennsylvania Mainline Canal. US Route 22 ~ the "William Penn Highway" ~ bisects the town: East to Huntingdon toward the bottom, West to Hollidaysburg toward the top. (#6,300)

Description:  Frankstown. Here is an undated photo by Don Ball, Jr., that was taken near Frankstown, Pennsylvania. It was published originally in his 1986 book entitled "The Pennsylvania Railroad: 1940's-1950's," page 134. Photo Caption: "At left, we are looking off Route 22 at an L-1s switching a cut of cars into the Hollidaysburg yard. The line east, behind the tender, comes off the main at PETE Interlocking near Petersburg."

Description:  Frankstown. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Frankstown, Pennsylvania, during January of 1962. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #2, an FF-2 (1-C-C-1) built by the American Locomotive Company for the Great Northern Railroad as number "5012" in October of 1927, acquired by the PRR and renumbered "2" in August of 1956, and retired in March of 1962 after 34 years of faithful service. Note that the pantographs have already been removed in preparation for its being scrapped at the PRR's Reclamation Plant.

Description:  Frankstown. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via the Houser Collection that was taken in Frankstown, Pennsylvania, on 5 July 1965. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4721 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are P=5A (2-C-2) electrics rated at 3,750 horsepower each. #4721 was built by Baldwin-Westinghouse in November of 1932 and retired in July of 1965 after 33 years of service. Next Stop: The Scrapper!

Description:  Frankstown. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Frankstown, Pennsylvania, around noon on 11 July 1964. Shown here is PRR engine #7923, an ES-12 built by GM-EMD in November of 1957 and rated at 1,200 horsepower. It's about to cross the unpaved road leading to the PRR's Reclamation Plant with three H-43A covered hopper cars that have recently been filled with sand.

Title:  PRR Frankstown-Petersburg Secondary Line, 1965
Description:  Frankstown. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trackage in Frankstown, Pennsylvania, around noon on 17 October 1965. Shown here is the double-tracked Frankstown-Petersburg Secondary Line. Also visible are the "FRANK" block limit sign and telephone box in the middle of the photo, as well as the back of a whistle post on the right. This Secondary Line was built around 1903 and was torn-up around 2003. A bicycle path now occupies the space where Consoldiateds and Decapods, Mikados and Mountains once roamed.

Description:  Frankstown. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trackage in Frankstown, Pennsylvania, around noon on 17 October 1965. This photo was taken from the elevated platform where sand was dumped into waiting hopper cars. The two tracks on the left are the very western end of the Frankstown-Petersburg Secondary Line. Also visible are the Juniata River on the far left, the bridge over the River, US Route 22 on the right, and some buildings in the village of Frankstown in the distance.
