This is a consolidation of several separate Central RR of New Jersey albums posted earlier. The photos are mostly original b&w scans, some with adjustments and refinements to bring out details. The photographer, date and location are identified when known. Approximate dates and locations have been given to those without the information.

Not much information on this 1892 Baldiwn built locomotive although the date here is listed as 1900 due to the RRPA date limits.. This is an older copy of the builder's photo of this slick looking little loco. This could possibly be in the D8 class.

Title:
CNJ 2-6-2T #200 - Central RR of New Jersey
Description:
First of the J1 class to be built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin) in 1902. These engines hauled suburban trains from Jersey City south to Perth Amboy (21.1 miles/34 km/h) or west to Somerville, NJ (34.7 miles/55.9 km/h). The trains were made up of 2-10 cars each weighing between 55,000 and 62,000 lb. The Perth Amboy could take anywhere from 32-52 minutes, the shorter time representing a two-car train making two stops and averaging 39.6 mph and the longer time a 20-stop train averaging 24.3 mph. The class was superheated in the 1920's. Specs - class J1, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 18x26" cylinders, engine weight of 189,900 lb, tractive effort of 22,731 lb. Very early photo of the 1928 Baldwin built 4-6-2 Pacific. This appears to be one of the three in the class to be painted blue for service pulling the famed Blue Comet varnish. As it appears with no road grime anywhere, this might be a CNJ photo just after the paint was applied. Description:
Here is another view of this sharp looking Pacific. This was a 1928 Baldwin Pacific type locomotive in the G-3 class. It had tall 79" drivers, could develop an impressive boiler pressure of 230 psi for its 26"x28" cylinders and had an engine weight of 326,470 lb. In terms of power, it could apply a tractive effort of 46,841 lb. Date is approximate - no photographer listed.

Description:
Built by Alco-Schenectady in May of 1923, CNJ 2-8-2 Mikado #905 served well until it was sent to the scrapper's torch in May of 1952. Specs - serial #64213, class M3s, 63" drivers, 27x32" cylinders, and from December of 1927 to January 1, 1929, it was fitted with a tender booster. The loco was reclassified in 1945 as class M63. No exact date or photographer was lised for the photo.

Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin) in 1902, this is an example of a 2-6-2 tank locomotive of the CNJ J1 class. It had 63" drivers, developed 200 psi in its boiler for its 18"x26" cylinders. The engine weight was 189,900 lb and it could apply a tractive effort of 22,731 lb. It was used primarily to move passenger trains along the CNJ mainlines. It looks like it might have finally reached the scrap line in the yard from the looks of the engines around it. No photographer listed.
