Description: |
Looking more like a road locomotive than a yard goat, its stubby wheels give it away however as it stis in front of the Bellevue, OH, roundhouse. Built by Alco-Pittsburgh as Wheeling & Lake Erie #5102 (serical #60154), it moved over to the Nickel Plate Road roster as NKP 272. Lima built this beefy 0-8-0 yard switcher in July of 1934 (serial #7621, class C-17) as New York Chicago & St Louis (Nickel Plate) 0-8-0 #304. The loco worked for nearly 28 years before it was finally retired and sold for scrap to Luntz Iron & Steel Company on March 18, 1962.The photo is from the Howard W. Ameling collection |
