Album Info:OHCR 4030 had been roaming around on the IORY for quite some time now. However, as of recent, another OHCR engine had made it onto IORY Rails, this one having a decent nose logo on the front. This, along with one of the Aussie SD50's had been assigned to the CIND Rack train to and from Greensburg. So, TJ and I decided to head on down to southern Indiana for an afternoon of chasing. What we got was not what we expected, but we will certainly take it. Enjoy!

CSX 523
Title:  CSX 523
Description:  Today, I decided to take TJ and myself to Southern Indiana in attempt to shoot OHCR 4023 leading the CIND Autorack Train from Greensburg back to Valley Jct. I have never explored this territory outside of Valley Jct. and I dont really know what to expect. Since the autorack train doesnt usually depart Greensburg until mid to late afternoon I had some time to sleep in after a hard night at work the night before, and woke up around noon to get TJ in Muncie. I made it around the Daleville/Chesterfield area when I noticed a CSX train had clearance across the NS at Muncie and I had some time to kill. I parked across the McClure Station and soon after CSX Q311 came roaring west with a YN2 leader on the head end.

NS 1149
Title:  NS 1149
Description:  On our way south NS 142 stopped us at the crossing with Indiana Route 3 on the south side of Mount Summit. Unfortunately we couldnt get to the crossing in time and this ugly window shot had to suffice.

IORY 5016 and OHCR 4023
Title:  IORY 5016 and OHCR 4023
Description:  We began to get a little nervous when we heard a TA ring out over the scanner from the CIND frequency around the Rushville area. We kicked it into high gear and made it into Greensburg. We crested the hill at the Honda Plant and to our relief the engines were still there preparing to hook onto their train.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  The engines roll back to the outbound train and pose in front of the plant. For an early October Day it was quite warm and a lot of heat waves formed in the shot, but I will take what I can get. Tj and I then moved into Greensburg to fin a place to sit and begin the chase.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  We found an excellent spot by an old brick warehouse framed with the Greensburg water tower in the background. We had the shot all planned out. However, right as the train tripped the crossings, a dum truck thought he could make it across but chickened out at the last second. Shouldnt have even tried to begin with. I had a feeling if this photo didnt go right that there were more problems down the road. I will take what I got though.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  Unfortunately I would be right. The train was thrown into emergency a mile outside of town at CR 200E. We werent sure why, but it gave us ample time to get some close up shots.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  After the conductor walked back to the head end of the train with no problems reported, the train continued east but at half speed. The train passes through New Point.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  TJ and I went straight into Batesville where we decided to park shop at the Hill-Rom. Hill-Rom is one of the leading manufacturers of hospital beds and other medical technology in the United States. The train passes underneath an air duct here and I thought that would make for a nice prop. We waited and waited and waited and waited and the train never showed up. After getting fed up of waiting we drove to the other side of town. Sure enough, the train was parked at the Mulberry St. crossing. The train had once again been thrown into emergency. We heard over the radio this time from the conductor that it was the rear car that was the issue and apparently the train was experiencing bad air slip. They sat for almost two hours in this spot before continuing on.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  We decided to get food at Dairy Queen and of course that is when the train began to leave. Thankfully we were able to make it back to Hill-Rom just in time to grab them. I wasnt sure if we could keep out ahead of them so we went with the safe alternative and shot the train on the shadow side. It is now beginning to get much later than we had anticipated.

OHCR 4023
Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  Due to the consistent airslip the train was now only moving at restricted speed, which along a 25 MPH mainline is about 10 MPH given what this train was going. The train slowly approaches CR 600E southeast of Morris, the neighboring community for Batesville.

Title:  OHCR 4023
Description:  After all the issues with the train, the crew ended up running out of time and tied the train down in Sunman. After the crew van came and picked them up, TJ and I moved in and grabbed some still shots of the train parked.

MAW 4
Title:  MAW 4
Description:  On our way north I was told that MAW 4 and CNUR 20 were hanging out at Beesons after delivering a windmill nacelle train to the airport earlier in the day. I decided to try an exposure with MAW 4 since there would be no headlights on. I have to say I am happy with the result. Not exactly what we were expecting to get throughout the day but an enjoyable day nonetheless!
