BMRG 4-8-4 #2102 - Blue Mountain & Reading |
Description: |
Great face shot of a survivor. Reading 4-8-4 #2102 built by Baldwin in 1923 as a 2-8-0 was rebuilt in 1945 as a 4-8-4. Having survived that, it was used in freight service for the Reading until 1956 when it was stored away. The loco was sold to Steam Tours of Akron, OH in 1967. Then it landed on the Blue Mountain & Reading tourist railroad in 1985 where it ran excursions like this photo taken by Scott A. Jenks. In 1990, BMRG reorganized into the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern (RBMN) where the loco is undergoing restoration with hopes of hitting the rails again. |

BMRG 4-8-4 #2102 - Blue Mountain & Reading |
Description: |
Blue Mountain & Reading 4-8-4 Northern #2102 runs through the woodlands near Jim Thorp, PA, on its tourist train trip The tender carries the message "We the People of Reading & Berks County PA Celebrate Constitution Day." Although Scott A Jenks who took the slide had labeled it in October, 1987, it makes me think that this could have been around September 17,1987, Constituion Day. |

Description: |
Close up of the massive face of a rugged survivor. Built originally as a 2-8-0 Consolidation for the Reading, it was rebuilt in 1945 as this massive 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotive used for freight hauling. It dodged the scrapper's torch a few times and landed here on the Blue Mountain & Reading roster. Later it would shift onto the new Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern reorganized roster and eventually be rebuilt in 2020-21 for future service. Scott A Jenks slide. No exact day in October, 1987 was given. |
