NOGC train stopped on Fourth Street in Gretna |
Description: |
A train of the NOGC is stopped on Fourth Street in Gretna. The rails are ex-SP. The train is apparently stopped because the tail end of that old F-150 is too close to the tracks. The men in reflective vests are NOGC crewmen. That newer crewcab Ford truck behind the Dolhonde Street sign is an NOGC truck that the conductor drives to monitor for obstructions ahead of the train and open the drawbridges. |

Traffic Jam on Fourth Street -- Gretna, Louisian |
Description: |
There's a big afternoon traffic jam on Fourth Street in Gretna, Louisiana, as a train of the NOGC is stopped waiting on the driver of the F150 at left to move her vehicle forward a few inches so that the train can pass. The truck parked in front of the train is an NOGC truck that the conductor rides ahead of the train to look out for problems like this, throw switches, and open and close drawbridges. NOGC crewmen can be seen in reflective vests assisting the driver with her truck. This is ex-SP trackage; the Mississippi River is four blocks to the left. |

On the move again. |
Description: |
After the NOGC crewmen helped the lady in the F150 move her truck forward a few inches until it reached the yellow barriers, the train smokes up as it begins inching forward after a delay of several minutes. The white Ford truck with Texas plates in the foreground is an NOGC truck with the two crewmen that have just helped the woman move her truck. (Apparently, it was stalled.) The two men are driving forward ahead of the train for their next task: lowering the Harvey Canal Drawbridge so that the train can pass on this wet August afternoon in Louisiana. |
