Album Info:My friend Erich and I decided to forego some of the activities at the Chicago & North Western Historical Society Annual Meet at Huron, SD to see some more of the ex-C&NW line. As we both live in Wisconsin and had never been out this far west along the ex-CNW, we went exploring. We followed the DM&E line west from Huron hoping to catch something moving. At Blunt, SD, we followed side roads down to the Missouri River valley, then traveled east just a couple of miles to the location known as Rousseau. We have seen shots of C&NW Alcos at this location. There is a scenic overlook above this location, complete with parking lot and facilities. We enjoyed the view for awhile, then spotted a bright moving light off in the distance with a dark tail. No kidding - there was an eastbound coming at us. Unfortunately, neither of us had high-grade cameras and gadgets along to fully take advantage of this great opportunity for special shots. While these shots are a bit fuzzy and not well-lit, they are fond remembrances of a great moment. Later we found this train stopped at Wessington, roughly twenty miles west of Huron, at the pasing siding waiting for a westbound. See final shot. Use the grid with 3 columns to see all shots on one screen.
