CB&Q F7 165 |
Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad F7 165 eastbound at Naperville, Illinois on April 20, 1963, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. Although all three units were considered a single locomotive by the CB&Q ( they were drawbar-connected) , the lead cab unit is 165A ( note dynamic brake fan on roof ), the suffix was applied on the sides in small one-inch lettering below the word BURLINGTON, for maintenace purposes. The trailing units are F3's, previously delivered as 138B and 138A. Later, these units were broken up, couplers replaced the drawbars, and the suffix letter was applied to the side numbers and to the numberbaords. This shows the as-delivered beaded numberboard applied between the headlights and the coupler covers in the open position, however, the EMD fuel tank skirts have been removed. |
