PRR 4270, EP-22, c. 1967
Title:  PRR 4270, EP-22, c. 1967
Description:  Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1967. Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4270 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4270 was constructed as number "5805" in July of 1952 and later renumbered "4270" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, this A-A-A set is waiting for a helper engine to couple on before pulling a passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains to Pittsburgh and points West. Partially visible at the left is the "new" 12th Street Footbridge; partially visible at the right are two structures that are part of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. ("PrrFan18n")
