PM 2-8-4 #1233 - Pere Marquette |
Description: |
Technically, this Pere Marquette 2-8-4 Berkshire #1233 was actually a C&O loco but was never renumbered when the PM finally merged into the C&O roster. Built by Lima in May of 1944 (serial #8467, class N-2) served both railroads well with its beefy power. It was eventually written off the C&O roster in January of 1958 but didn't actually meet the scrapper's torch until 1961 after being stored with sister units in New Buffalo, MI. Final specs - 70" drivers (upgrade from 69" in 1946), impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 456,100 lb, tractive effort of 69,350 lb with booster adding 14,400 lb.
