Lurking in its shadow is PRR engine #5923, an ES-10 built by GM-EMD in October of 1947 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. The name of the Machinist pictured here is not recorded. William E. Here is the title page of a 156-page monograph entitled "A Special History Study; Pennsylvania Railroad Shops And Works; Altoona, Pennsylvania." The study was written by Dr. John C. Paige, and published by the United States Department of the Interior's National Park Service during May of 1989.
