Title:  PRR 4480, I-1SA, 1940
Description:  Here is a photo by H.W. Pontin via Rail Photo Service that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1940. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4480, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during May of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in March of 1944, and retired in March of 1950 after 27 years of faithful service. In this context, it's rounding the Curve with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. John S. Fisher Collection; #11 of 14.

Title:  PRR 4483, I-1SA, 2006
Description:  #4483. Here is an original 35mm color slide by David Simmons that was taken in Hamburg, New York, on 24 September 2006. Shown here is ex-Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4483, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during May of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1931, and retired in August of 1957 after 34 years of faithful service. For several years, this locomotive was stored in Northumberland. Then it was restored cosmetically and put on display in front of the Westinghouse Air Brake plant in Wilmerding. And then it was purchased by the Western New York Railway Historical Society and moved to Hamburg where it now sits, exposed to the elements. It's the last PRR "Decapod" on Planet Earth!

PRR 4483
Title:  PRR 4483
Description:  The WNYRHS' massive former PRR Decapod 4483 sits on display across from the old ERIE Hamburg depot. Constructed by Baldwin in 1923, this locomotive saw heavy freight service in both Pennsylvania and western New York while working for the PRR. Replaced by diesels and retired in 1959, 4483 was moved to a roundhouse in Northumberland, PA to join the rest of the PRR Heritage Collection that upper railroad management was assembling at the time. Unlike most of the other items in the collection which would eventually wind up at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg, 4483 left the collection in 1963 for Westinghouse where it would serve as a static display in front of the company's western Pennsylvania headquarters for the next nineteen years, the WNYRHS acquiring it in 1982. 4483 is the last example of a PRR 2-10-0 left in existance today.
