NYC 4-6-4 #5352 - New York Central |
Description: |
Built by Alco-Schenectady in November of 1927 (NYC records show 12/1927), this 4-6-4 Hudson started out as Michigan Central #8207 (serial #67488). In 1936, the Michigan Central sold (?) it to NYC who renumbered it as NYC #5352. An additional booster was added which brought 10,900 lb more tractive effort. After serving both the MC & NYC for nearly 26 years, the loco was retired in June of 1953 and sold for scrap in September of 1953. Interestingly, the listed date for this photo is 10/17/1954 after the sold for scrap date This very well may be the last photo ever taken of the loco as it sat lined out in a scrap line. .Specs - 79" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 359,800 lb, tractive effort of 42,360 lb, booser tractive effort of 10,900 lb.
