RDG 4-6-0C #615 - Reading Co |
Description: |
Action shot of the 1915 4-6-0C ten wheeler camelback being prepped by a crew member for another passenger run. Built by the Reading shops, it was a class L-7 camelback, an odd but still interesting locomotive that allowed the Reading to burn less fuel efficient coal than the traditional locomotives. This appears to be an older reprint and didn't list the location, date or photographer. |

CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-2 659 |
Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 659 at Peoria, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1925, photograph by Paul Ellenberger, print by Don Gruber, Chuck Zeiler collection. The CB&Q had ordered 55 4-6-0 locomotives from the newly organized Grant Locomotive Works of Cicero, Illinois in 1893, however, only three were completed before a strike at the Works suspended locomotive production. The CB&Q cancelled the rest of the order and continued the order at the railroad's own shops. Number 659 was completed by the Havelock, Nebraska shops in 1985 as Burlington & Missouri River number 6, renumbered in 1904 to CB&Q 659 and classed as K-2, retired in October 1946. |

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 664 on August 1, 1941, location, and photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 664 was built by the CB&Q at West Burlington, Iowa in 1896 as Burlington & Missouri River number 14, renumbered to CB&Q 664 in 1904, retired in October 1946. According to the CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet dated August 1, 1940, this locomotive was assigned to the Galesburg Division. Note that the bell is located behind the stack and an open space is between the two domes, generally indicating that this locomotive was once in commuter train service and a Curtis train lighting turbo generator was once located between the domes. |

CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-4 723 |
Description: |
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-4 723, date, location, and photographer unknown, print by Martin Brady, Chuck Zeiler bollection. The selected date (June 1, 1950) based on the CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet of that date. The Sheet shows 723 assigned to the Aurora Division, but the bridge looks like Galesburg. Corrections are welcome. Number 723 wap built by the CB&Q's Havelock, Nebraska Shops as Burlington & Missouri River Railroad 3691, renumbered shortly after construction to CB&Q 723 and classed K-4. It was retired and sold for scrap in February 1951. |
