Description: |
Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Embraceable U." Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania Railroad's voluptuous U25C No. 6506 delivered 2,500 hp in a reliable new locomotive introduced in the mid-1960's. It was General Electric's first big 6-axle diesel and, as with many other full-figured diesel models, Pennsy was one of the first railroads to embrace it." Shown here is PRR engine #6506, a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded. |

Description: |
AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1967. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6000, #6007, and #6509. All were built during 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6000 and #6007 are EF-25A's built by GM-EMD, whereas #6509 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. In this context, they're rounding the Curve on their way back down to East Altoona for yet another helper or pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back. |
