GN 2186 Sits ready-to-go in a Cold Dawn awaiting retirement |
Description: |
2186 - Class Q2 sits ready to go on a cold morning. Retirement is only a year or so awayat age 30. Bad thing about being a retired steam locomotive - you don't get to enjoy it long - you end up being recycled into other useful things. |

GN 2-10-2 #2189 - Great Northern |
Description: |
Looking like a "long drink of water', this beautiful Santa Fe-type locomotive sits quietly next to the freight house in St Cloud, MN. The note on the back accurately describes this loco "Q-2 Baldwin, 1914, Rebuilt in 1928 by G.N. Shops" Fifteen GN 4-8-2s (numbers 1750-1764), which were built by Lima in 1914, were rebuilt as these long monster. with new numbers of 2175-2189. After serving the Great Northern in both configurations, this loco was finally scrapped in 1958. Bill Kuba photo |
