Title:  NSW 0-8-0 #73 - Northwest Steel & Wire
Description:  Caught by an unknown photographer, NSW #73 sits in an abandoned spot while a sister unit powers up. Looks are deceiving. #73 has the distincton of being the last steam locomotive used at Northwest Steel & Wire in December of 1980 and one of the very last working industrial steam engines in the United States. #73 was then donated to the town of Sterling and placed in honor by the company owner's house.

Description:  Built by Baldwin in 1929 for the Grand Truck Western as their 8376, the loco was retired in 1958 but purchased by Northwestern Steel and Wire to serve them until 1980. Although no relation to Illinois Central, it does look the part sitting next to the Amboy depot.

Description:  Another view of the 1929 Baldwin switcher originally built for the Grand Trunk Western and later served the Northwestern Steel and Wire Company. Now it is a static display next to the Illinois Central Amboy depot in an area that once contained a large yard for the IC Northern Division.
