Rainy. Here is an original telepkoto view that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6500 and #6306. #6500 is b GF-25A built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6306 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. They&are pushing a 99-car westbound mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and return to East Altoona for another run up tge Mountains. The caboose is N-8 #478151.

Rainy. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here are two sets of helper/pusher units returning to East Altoona for more runs up the Allegheny Mountains and bacj. On the right are PRR engines #6304 and #6303. Both are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. Beyond the 24th Street Bridge are PRR engines #6500 and #6306. #6500 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6306 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower.

Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #6005, #6502, and #6032. All were built in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #6005 and #6032 are EF-25A's built by EMD, but #6502 is a GF-25A built by General Electric. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge on their way West toward the Altoona Passenger Station. Visible in the background are some of the PRR Passenger Car Shop buildings, now abandoned. Here is a post card via Peter Outerbridge entitled "Embraceable U." Caption On Reverse: "Pennsylvania Railroad's voluptuous U25C No. 6506 delivered 2,500 hp in a reliable new locomotive introduced in the mid-1960's. It was General Electric's first big 6-axle diesel and, as with many other full-figured diesel models, Pennsy was one of the first railroads to embrace it." Shown here is PRR engine #6506, a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. The photographer's name, the exact date, and the location are not recorded.

Snapping the First Class
Description:
No.25 - The Duquesne - with a pair of U25C helpers and three E units with 22 cars and healthy head-end traffic is coming out of Scotch Run Curve at MP 241 on this first day of September, 1966 at a time when renumbering of locomotives had begun for the pending Penn-Central merger. PRR helpers on the point were referred to as "snappers". Note the lead E unit still has its trainphone antennas.
