WLE 2-8-2 #6018 (will become NKP #688 in 1949) |
Description: |
Although it was officially still a Wheeling & Lake Erie loco, this 1918 Brooks-Alco M-1 class "heavy Mikado" would be renumbered by the Nickel Plate Road in 1949 to #688. It had the typical 63" drivers and 200 psi boiler pressure common to all NKP Mikados. Sadly it was sold for scrap on 4/23/1955 to the Luntz Iron & Steel Co. |

WLE 2-8-2 #6020 - Wheeling & Lake Erie |
Description: |
This Alco-Brooks Mikado was delivered 10/1918 as an M-1 class locomotive. Photographer C.W. Burns noted on the back "One of 20, St'd tender". It was renumbered on 1/9/1951 to NKP 690. Eventually the locomotive was sold for scrap on 5/3/56 to Luntz Iron & Steel. The day in 1938 is approximate. This is a February, 1968 reprint from his negative. |
