Title:
BNSF 4843 and CCBX 2494
Description:
At 22:55 on 12-29-2003 loaded grain train G-SJOLAR9-26 (BNSF 4648, NS 9361, BNSF 1032, 103 loads, 0 empties, 13,789 tons, 6087 feet) failed to stop at the red signal at the west siding switch at Pauls Valley. This trian struck train H-PTRSTL9-28 (BNSF 4349, BNSF 4866, ATSF 609, 22 loads, 45 empties, 4222 tons, 3809 feet) as it was taking siding. This resulted in the derailment of the three locomotives on G-SJOLAR9-26 and four cars (OCPX 62871, DOWX 79567, DOWX 79678, and NATX 82801) on H-PTRSTL9-28. This series of photographs documents the recovery process from first light through the ballasting of the installed track panels late in the evening. The main track was placed back in service at 15:05 on 12-30-2003. This photo is looking westward out the engineer's window of the lead unit from train G-SJOLAR9-26 (BNSF 4648) which has been rerailed and pulled west of the derailment location. Ahead is tank car CCBX 2494 and the lead unit from the emergency ballas train, BNSF C44-9W 4843.
