Yard goat |
Description: |
The Miami yard engine makes up a New York train as I arrive on the Silver Star. Note the Slumbercoach. They were a staple on the Florida trains and the New York-Chicago trains, and were a really economical way to get a bed, however small, instead of sleeping in a coach seat. As I recall, the extra charge was around $15. |

Gateway Rail Services Yard |
Description: |
Part of the 'back yard' of Gateway Rail Services in Madison IL. As the view emphasises, GRS specializes in passenger car refurbishing and parts. The car in the foreground is Budd Slumbercoach AMT 2091, the 'Loch Lochy' (ex AMT 2030, BN/NP 332, B&O 7704 'Thriftland'). The former CB&Q Mark Twain Zephyr sits to the left just beyond the row of trucks. |
