Skidmore was a wide spot on the road in South Texas where three SP lines met. The tracks in the foreground headed for the Mexican border and the Rio Grande valley. SSW 7653, shown here with a B&O GP40-2, U33C and a pair of GP9s trailing, is bringing a train from Corpus Christi into the small yard. The route north headed about ten miles to Beeville, where they split again, with lines to Houston and San Antonio. All of this trackage came up in the 1990s, although there is some talk of KCS buying and re-laying the portion from Victoria to the south. |
