| Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 0-6-0 Class G-5-A 0-6-0 510, main rod removed at Omaha, Nebraska on January 20, 1957, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. This locomotive was built by Baldwin during 1921 (c/n 53983). The CB&Q acquired a total of 25 0-6-0's between 1919 and 1921. The first 10 (class G-5, numbers 500 - 509) were built by the Cooke Works of the American Locomotive Company (Alco) in 1919, and an additional 15 (class G-5-A, numbers 510 - 524) were built by Baldwin in 1921. The difference between the G-5 and the G-5-A design was the omission of the steam superheater on the Baldwin built locomotives. Both classes were built to the standard USRA design, and very little was done to change them over their lives. Baker valve gear and cross-compound air compressors were standard on all the Burlington's USRA 0-6-0's. All were retired and scrapped between 1953 and 1955 except for this one, which was sold to the French Lick Hotel in December 1957. |
