| GM&O GP30 508 at Paducah, Kentucky on June 25, 1986, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in Feburary 1963 (c/n 27912) on EMD Order 7635, it rides on trucks from Alco FA1 and FB1 trade-in's. I recall reading somewhere that it took the EMD engineers some tinkering to get the GE traction motors to work with EMD electronics. It is seen here in the dead line at the shops in Paducah, the Illinois Central's main back shops which, at the time of this photo, were shut down. This locomotive became ICG GP30 2258 and was eventually rebuilt to CSX slug 2256. Stencilled under the cab window are the words: ISELIN SHOP, and on the access door below the central air intake grill are the words: TEST FILTER ELEMENT DO NOT CHANGE. |
