SP TEBU 1601 at Tucson, Arizona on November 21, 1985, photo by Chuck Zeiler. This TEBU (Tractive Effort Booster Unit) was built from retired SP U25B #6761, built as 7561 in March 1964 (c/n 34798) on GE Order 1405, SP Order P-1085. Power for the traction motors was supplied by a GP40-2 on either end, it had dynamic brakes, and it retained the fuel tank. Equipped with sensors, it could supply fuel to the GP40-2's, and keep the fuel load balanced between all units for better adhesion to the rails. |
