Burlington Northern Railroad SD24 6253 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in August, 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as CB&Q 513 in May 1959 (c/n 25210) on EMD Order 5598, it became BN 6253 sometime after the March 2, 1970 merger, and was retired in June 1982. It is seen here with a bag over the exhaust stack. It was built with a high short hood, but encountered a truckload of corn in August 1975 at Henderson, Illinois. It was sent to West Burlington, Iowa for repairs, where it received a chopped hood and was returned to service in October 1975. |
