Burlington Northern Railroad SD9 6192 at Clyde, Illinois on an unknown day in March 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in September 1957 as CB&Q SD9s 445 (c/n 23624) on EMD Order 5549, it became BN 6192 and eventually BNSF 6192. The lower case "s" in the CB&Q model designation (SD9s) indicates a Single control stand, unusual for the CB&Q, which generally had the road switchers equipped with dual control stands. By July 1981, this locomotive will return to this same spot with a chopped short hood. It appears to have picked up a second fuel tank sometime in the future. |
