This is a Central Michigan unit (Lord knows why it's in KC), and if memory serves is an X-MP U23B.

The reason it was in Kansas City, was that it was supposed to be SCRAPPED.

Not according to Dave Cenci, who said "the 8904 was just sold to a locomotive dealer out west", which would explain why it was not remarked, white-lined. Instead, it was traveling with an SD40 and a switcher to the dealer. Hell, the unit served for 16 years on the CM after its service on the MP and UP rosters. Darned impressive for a toaster.

this unit is indeed a U23B and a former MP unit. I am currently trying to save its sister unit, the 8902 twho was recabbed with an EMD cab

It's still in Kansas City, and it's not scrapped, it belongs to Midwest Locomotive Services.
