The Q400-series trains out of Cumberland run east to the DC area thwen turn south onto the old RF&P, which is equipped with cab signals. At one point, CSX installed cab signals in a number of GP40-2s, which, for a long period of time meant that was what always led the trains. I believe the RF&P system was upgraded to match Conrail's cab signals, and, as years progressed, newer CSX units started to become equipped with the cab signals, and the Conrail split, the GP40-2s on the point of the 400's started to go away. Such was not the case this dreary March 2003 day.... |
