Interesting I've seen this before. That's right is NW5 is ALCO? And, great shot and congrats that I seen this photo been on front RP of homepage today!

NW5! Great catch. (The NW5 was actually one of EMD's first attempts at a road switcher--just an NW2 with a stretched frame, short hood for an optional steam generator and Blomberg road trucks. It looks like an ALCO cause it's actually a stretched yard switcher like the RS1's, 2's and 3's; you can just see the EMD notch in the long hood ahead of the cab. I think they only built 5 or 6 of them.) Again, great catch and nice shot!

Just read about and saw this rare EMD model in the Trans Mag Locomotive Special. Your shot depicts the true essence of something so unique. The BL-2 is another such experiment.

Looks like the F is at the short hood end. I wonder if other NW5s ran this way?
