AHC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by John Szwajkart that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9792 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EF-15A's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9792 was built in March of 1951 and retired in February of 1967 after just 16 years of revenue service. In this context, they're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. |
