PC "HOLLY" Block Signal, 1972
HOLLY. Here is an original photo that I took in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, in March of 1972. Shown here is the "HOLLY" block signal, marking the boundary between the Penn Central Railroad's Hollidaysburg Yards (to the rear) and the Hollidaysburg Secondary Line (to the front). In olden times, HOLLY Tower was located just this side of the Juniata River Railroad Bridge. Beyond the Bridge are the Bedford Street Crossing and the Passenger Station. From 1834 through 1854, this stretch of track was the original right of way for the Allegheny Portage Railroad: the journey began at the Pennsylvania Mainline Canal's Boat Basin, proceeded West to Duncansville, surmounted the Allegheny Mountains visible in the hazy distance, and terminated in Johnstown.
