| AT&SF GP35u 2836 at El Paso, Illinois on February 25, 1988, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 2836 was built in May 1964 as AT&SF GP35 1336 (c/n 28733) on EMD Order 7675. It was renumbered to 3336 in mid-1970, rebuilt during April 1983 to GP35u 2836, gaining a cab roof air conditioner and smoke deflectors over the central air intake grills (later removed). It was briefly renumbered to 3593 for the SPSF merger, then back to 2836 (probably the reason for the fresh yellow paint on the side of the cab). It was transferred to the BNSF in 1995 and renumbered to 2536 in 1999. It is seen here eastbound on the TP&W, which the AT&SF owned for a short period of time. |
