Southern Pacific upgraded SW9 2299 and a caboose were parked on the tie-up track in Raceland, Louisiana. The locomotive and caboose that were based here switched at Raceland and worked the Lockport Branch. The little building to the left of the locomotive housed the ice machine, while the larger structure -- with the fire extinguisher -- was a combination dressing room/shower/restroom. The bulkhead flat car was on the team track with a load for either Raceland Lumber or Robicheaux Lumber. The 2299 was built in January 1952 as Cotton Belt 1060, renumbered SSW 2206 in 1965, and upgraded into SP 2299 in March 1973. It was retired in December 1986 and sold to Railway Switching Service in March 1988. The Espee leased this trackage to the Louisiana & Delta shortly before the UP merger in 1996. |
