The Opelika Switcher job heads from the Uniroyal Tire plant back to the main on the lead in the early 1980s. The plant finally closed in 2010 leaving the branch idle with no other industry.

Bryan Smith General Didn't this plant close?? Or was that just a rumor at some point?? If it closed, are there any other industries on this spur that do business with the railroad today?? 12/1/2010 5:23:59 PM
Bernie Feltman General No Bryan - the Uniroyal lead was for Uniroyal only. In years gone by, the switcher would spend half a day out there switching and classifying cars. Towards the end, a few cars of inbound raw materials, along with rare outbound loads were all that remained of this once heavy traffic base 12/3/2010 9:40:35 AM
