SP 8116
One of Southern Pacific's newer locomotives lead an older SP diesel departing Centennial Yard with a UP freight. The big red bloody nose on the C44-9W makes me wonder what safety/comfort cab equipped locomotives would look like with the full Espee light package installed. SP 8116 would eventually be repainted into full UP paint and become UP 9580 on May 10, 2000. The SD40T-2 trailing would be assigned a new number, UP 8704, but would be retired before renumbering or repainting could take place. In May 2004 this worn out EMD was sold to Larry's Truck and Electric (LTEX), shipped to Ohio and scrapped after 26 years of service.
