This was the locomotive that pulled the gondolas down further as they were being filled. You can see the large stockpile of coal in the background. A duo of Michigan brand front end loaders were kept busy for about 8 hours filling the train. This line has only recently started being used again to load coal trains. Right now they are doing one train a week/four a month. The coal was bound for a power plant in New York. Back in the 80s was the heyday for this coal yard when the tracks were owned by Conrail and I can still remember the Conrail blues roaming these tracks almost daily. SWP 2003 is a former JTPX (1801), IC 8705, ICG 8705, MBTA 7555, Conrail 7555, PC 7555, NH 1225. Built in August 1956, it began as a GP9 and is now upgraded to a GP11. |
