The Great Northern Empire Builder at the GN Mpls MN Depot in 1969. Editors Pick!
This train is headed to Chicago via St Paul MN. The Mpls MN main GN depot served trains by the GN, NP, CNW, CB&Q, and CGW. At its peak this depot serviced over 125 passenger trains per day. The Mpls post office is to the left and remains today. The Milwaukee Road, CNW, and Soo Line used the three tracks to the left on a grade to get out of the Mississippi River valley and get access to their grain elevators and also to the Milwaukee Road depot.
