Retirement time has come for this old BNSF yellowbonnet. Dead-in-tow on CSX train Q368-12 to Cumberland. In the convoluted method that is usual for CSX, they go there for a final going-over before going back west on a train to Ohio, where they get delivered to LTEX (locomotive scrapper and refurbisher). This is an EMD GP30U. Built in April 1962 as ATSF 1202 GP30. Later renumbered to ATSF 3202, and then ATSF 2702 when rebuilt to a GP30U. During the rebuild process they received this paint, new roller bearings, brake systems, 645 series power assemblies, traction motors, generators, electronics, controls, horns, and air conditioning. BNSF inherited 78 of these from the merger with ATSF. Many of them are either being retired or in storage. |
