1974 was the beginning of a bridge project that significantly altered the landscape in little Cragford, Alabama. A long and worn-out one-lane wooden bridge that crossed Crooked Creek over a deep ravine was replaced by a modern bridge that not only spanned the creek but soared above the railroad at the exact point where this photograph was taken. As part of the project, the woodyard layout was reversed and the switch (which opened to the north just beyond the bottom unit in this consist) was relocated to a southward opening switch several hundred feet in front of SCL 1785. |
