This is not a Pacific, or a4-6-2. It is the first Mohawk, 4-8-2, purchased by NYC in 1916.

Cool shot. A 4-8-2 anywhere else would be a Mountain type. On the NYC, not so many mountains-recall, their marketing line for passenger service was, "The Water Level Route-you can sleep," a direct slap at the Pennsy's mountainous route across PA, and their somewhat less than gentle train handling. Thus, the 4-8-2 on the Central honored the Water Level Route, being named after one of the main waterways it followed, the Mohawk River.
